LOVEFiLM support claim YouView presence

A rogue tweet from the LOVEFiLM Twitter support team has boosted speculation that the movie-streaming service is poised to join YouView.

The Amazon owned LOVEFiLM already features high on lists of content providers users of the Digital TV/IPTV platform want to see come on board.

On Wednesday a LOVEFiLM Twitter support member told one YouView owner enquiring about their future plans for the platform:

“There is a Box Office on YouView but we don’t yet have an Instant app. Keep checking as we may do in the future.”

No such app (termed player on YouView) currently exists.

Earlier in the day a YouView team member said the service would be “announcing new content partners and providers over the coming weeks and months”.

A LOVEFiLM spokesperson declined to comment on he likelihood of it joining YouView, insisting the company did not comment on future plans and speculation.

UPDATE: A spokeperson for YouView has provided some clarity. Platform shareholder TalkTalk is offering LOVEFiLM Box Office as part of their YouView offering with films available within the TalkTalk branded player.

It appears this is what Lovefilm’s staff are referring to but are referring to ti without making clear that the service is only available to those using YouView via TalkTalk broadband. The refusal of LOVEFiLM’s spokespeople to comment on the Tweet failed to provide clarity on this point.
