Netflix US is to become the exclusive home of Disney, Marvel, Lucasfilm and Pixar’s future films and back catalogue from this summer.

The entertainment giants signed a deal in 2012 which gave Netflix full exclusivity to films released theatrically from 2016 onwards and makes Netflix the exclusive US home of future Star Wars and Avengers titles.

Unlike previous tie-ups, Netflix is obtaining all rights meaning the Disney owned studios’ titles will be unavailable on any other US pay-TV service, including cable firms.

The tie-up will significantly boost Netflix’s appeal, potentially accelerating the number of customers who switch from traditional pay-TV services to its low-cost offering.
