It seems anyone who has registered for O2’s iPhone 4 mailing list will be automatically sent a “blank” micro sim to allow them to transfer an existing number to a new iPhone.
Enquiring about their upgrade deal, I contacted O2 customer services and asked what would happen if I instead purchased a pay as you go iPhone 4 – could I get a new micro sim with my existing in-contract phone?
Apparently so, I was advised anyone who signed up for the network’s mailing list would automatically be sent a new sim and details of how to transfer their number to it via a dedicated website.
With costs of the handsets – as opposed to the tariffs – unknown at the time of my call I’ll be holding out in case the pay as you go/sim swap ends up being the best value option.
