Sky Player to launch on web-enabled TVs and Freeview boxes

Sky has announced a major tie-up with television and set-top box manufacturers to make its Sky Player service available on internet connected TVs and Freeview set-top boxes.

The subscription service, which offers access to a range of live TV channels and video on demand content, is to made available on Cello LCD TVs and Freeview PVRs from makers 3View. Sky says the service will be available as a pay TV option on both platforms.

Non-Sky customers will be able to sign up to a choice of TV packages via monthly subscription.

Griff Parry, Sky’s Director of On-Demand, comments: “The coming together of ground-breaking video services like Sky Player with innovative platforms like Cello and 3View demonstrates the vibrancy of the evolving internet video-on-demand sector. We will continue to look at opportunities to distribute Sky Player across new platforms, to give consumers even more choice and control over how they access high-quality pay TV content.”

Sky Player is already available for PC and Mac users, XBox 360 and Windows Media Center.
