TalkTalk TV starts blocking pay channels on extra boxes

September 29, 2014 - Martin Hoscik@seenituk

TalkTalk TV has started restricting its extra pay channels to one ‘main’ YouView set top box, blaming licensing restrictions for the change.

Until recently customers were able to watch both free to air (aerial) channels and TalkTalk’s subscription ‘boosts’ on multiple boxes without paying an additional fee.

Customers attempting to access subscription channels such as Sky 1 on secondary boxes will now be advised that the content is only available on their main box.

In a support FAQ, the firm says “Due to our channel licensing agreements, we do not offer or support Multi-room at present. In order meet these contractual obligations, this limitation is being enforced from September 2014.”

Earlier this summer fellow YouView shareholder BT also started blocking its pay channels for customers with additional boxes unless they took out an ‘Extra Box’ subscription.
