The Class (Entre Les Murs)

A busy week was punctuated by 2 hours of relative calm as I settled down in the Fox screening room and enjoyed The Class in which François Bégaudeau spends a school year challenging and daring his class of racially mixed students in a tough Parisian neighbourhood.

If you’re thinking this sounds a touch To Sir, With Love or Sister Act 2, you’re not far off but the execution here has enough originality to justify another outing of this familiar concept.

Mostly enjoyable but I was disappointed when a sub-plot about a mother facing deportation wasn’t pursued despite the teachers promising to attend court and speak up for her.

Some great performances and a few decent gags, definitely worth a trip if your local cinema is one of the few showing it.
