TLC snaps up Universal Television’s Heartbeat

heartbeat_TLCFemale-skewing entertainment channel TLC has acquired the exclusive UK premiere rights to hotly anticipated US medical drama, Heartbeat.

The 10-part show is based on the real life and achievements of cardiothoracic surgeon, Dr. Kathy Magliano, and stars Melissa George (The Slap) in the lead role of Dr. Alex Panttiere.

TLC say “There is nothing conventional about Dr. Panttiere, who is as cutting edge and unorthodox in the Operating Room as she is with the two men in her life.

Her approach to medicine is without boundaries, as is her approach to everything else in her world.

“Between Dr. Panttiere’s hectic hospital life that includes a tumultuous love triangle with two brilliant but stubborn surgeons (Dave Annable and Don Hany) and her household of two kids and a homosexual rock star ex-husband (Joshua Leonard), Alex is constantly striving to overcome numerous daily obstacles and be the best mother and doctor possible.”

The show also stars Dave Annable (Brothers & Sisters), Shelley Conn (Mistresses, Terra Nova), D.L. Hughley (The Hughleys), Jamie Kennedy (Kingdom), Maya Erskine (Man Seeking Woman), JLouis Mills and Joshua Leonard (The Blair Witch Project).

Clare Laycock, Head of TLC, UK & Ireland, said of the acquisition: “Off the back of an incredibly successful 2015, we’re really excited to add Heartbeat to TLC’s slate for 2016.  It’s a fast-paced, fearless and uplifting medical drama that perfectly complements our broad mix of content and I know our viewers will love it.”

Heartbeat is executive produced by Jill Gordon, Amy Brenneman and Brad Silberling and produced by Universal Television.

TLC is available on Sky 125, Virgin 167, BT TV 323, Talk Talk 323
