Stephen Wadsworth’s production of Terrence McNally’s Master Class, which stars Tyne Daly as legendary opera soprano Maria Callas, is coming to London’s West End following a critically acclaimed, sell-out run on Broadway.
The production will run at the Vaudeville Theatre for 14 weeks only from 21 January to 28 April.
Tickets are on sale now and prices start from £12.50.
Producers say further casting details will be announced shortly.
The play takes audiences to one of Callas’s famous master classes, where, late in her own career, she dares the next generation to make the same sacrifices and rise to the same heights that made her the most celebrated, the most reviled and the most controversial singer of her time.
Master Class received its world premiere at the John Golden Theatre in 1995 and won the Tony Award for Best Play and the Drama Desk Award for Outstanding New Play. The current production opened at the Samuel J. Friedman Theatre earlier this year.
Daly is much loved by TV audiences for her role as Mary Beth Lacey in cop drama Cagney and Lacey. She and co-star Sharon Gless are taking part in one-off Q&A at the BFI Southbank next month to mark the show’s 30th anniversary.
Further casting details for Master Class will be announced shortly.
