Music video giant Vevo could launch on YouView this year

January 21, 2013 - Staff@seenituk

YouView, Virgin Media and Sky customers could gain access to thousands of music videos this year after Vevo CEO Rio Caraeff signalled the company’s interest in connected TV platforms.

The City A.M newspaper reports Mr Caraeff as naming the three platforms as potential partners.

The newspaper quotes him as saying: “You’ll see at least a dozen of those new platforms this year from us…We have a lot that we’re cooking for the year.”

Vevo is backed by record labels Universal Music, Sony Music and EMI, and offers free access to its catalogue of music videos online and via apps for tablets and smartphones.

When previously asked by seenit.co.uk if the company planned to launch on YouView, a spokesperson told us: “Vevo does not have a comment at this time”, a non-denial which we took as a possible ‘yes’.

The full interview is available online.
