Virgin Media starts work on broadband speed upgrade

Virgin Media says work has started on its upgrade programme which will see all broadband customers receive a speed boost.

In January the company announced an 18-month the upgrade programme which will boost speeds for its current 10Mb, 20Mb, 30Mb and 50Mb subscribers.

Most customers will see their speeds “at least doubled” while those with Virgin’s 100mb service will see “a significant increase to 120Mb.”

Starting this week and throughout March and April 1.5m cable homes – including those in Newcastle, Ashford, Ipswich, Dundee, Belfast and Cambridge – will be upgraded.

Virgin says the speed boost will ensure customers get high quality access to the huge growth in new online services.

Jon James, executive director of broadband at Virgin Media said: “Following our Double Speeds programme, all of our customers will be ‘superfast’ as standard and ready to access a new breed of high bandwidth entertainment services.

“By continuing to give our customers faster speeds and greater value services, we’re committed to providing our customers the best broadband in the UK.”
