YouView could bring National Theatre to UK homes

UK households with a YouView set top box could soon be enjoying the very nest of the National Theatre, CEO Richard Halton has suggested in an interview with City AM.

Launched in July, YouView combines broadcast channels with on-demand and catch-up video delivered via broadband and is expected to add live internet delivered (IPTV) channels to the service next year.

Talking to City AM, Halton said his team were “talking to content owners who have never had a TV channel before, people like the National Theatre who would love to have a channel on YouView, they’ve got lots of great live content and archives of footage to show, so that will be a big change.”

The service already offers access to top-flight films via Sky’s NOW TV Player and BT and TalkTalk customers can subscribe to on-demand content from major channels and production companies.

Earlier this month TalkTalk announced it was signing up 1,000 YouView customers every day.

Since launch the service has won three major Tech awards, including being named Video Gadget of the Year’ at the Stuff magazine awards.
