Amazon UK is extending its Prime membership scheme to include access to the firm’s Lovefilm movie & TV streaming service.
Amazon Prime members already benefit from free next day delivery on many items as well as a 500,000 title Kindle book lending library.
From next week (February 26th) members will also gain access to Lovefilm’s 15,000 movie and TV episode streaming catalogue which can be accessed online, via apps and on selected Smart TVs and Blu-rays under a the Prime Instant Video brand already used in the US.
After this date Prime will cost £79 a year – up from £49 – but the online retailer says customers can sign-up now to enjoy instant video for the current, lower price
Existing customers will have the new video service added to their package at no extra cost until their next renewal.
Amazon says it’s increasing investment in its video service which already offers a number of exclusive titles, including Vikings, Alpha House and the upcoming Betas.
“We’ve worked hard to offer the best selection of TV shows and movies for Prime Instant Video—in fact, we’ve more than tripled selection since LOVEFiLM became part of the Amazon family,” said Tim Leslie, Vice President of Amazon Instant Video for the UK and Germany.
“We also added high definition video and introduced apps for popular devices like Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Samsung and Sony TVs and iPads and iPhones. Customers who love movies and TV will love Amazon Prime Instant Video.”
