The day BBC HD met its fiercest critics

Jun 14, 2010 - Martin Hoscik@martinhoscik

Being a careful type you checked out the reviews before finally buying your new HD TV, asked mates to work out whether your needs were best fulfilled by the HD offerings on Freeview, Freesat, Sky or Virgin and then took the plunge.

And after all that hard work what did you find?

Well according to some commentators on the BBC’s blog, what you get with the corporation’s HD channels is less than perfect picture quality which is being compromised to meet the limitations of inferior platforms in some cockeyed attempt at platform neutrality.

After what seems like a lengthy exchange of views the BBC has met a group of critics, treated them to a tour of their HD setup and given them blog space to expand on their objections.

Even if, like me, much of the technical side of things leaves you feeling a bit dim, the group’s three-part blog is worth a read.

It’s also refreshing to see the BBC engage with Licence Fee payers in such an open way.
