BT is now offering small firms free guest WiFi, allowing their customers to get online while visiting their offices, enjoying a coffee or shopping in-store.
Available to small businesses with a BT Business Smart Hub, the feature creates a guest WiFi connection which is “entirely separate” from the trader’s own connection.
The connection is fully secure, automatically filters content without any additional configuration, and prioritises the bandwidth allocated to the company’s private network.
BT says users won’t be asked to enter their details to get online and that existing residential BT customers will be able to connect instantly via the BT WiFi app.
Mike Tomlinson, managing director for SMEs for BT Business and Public Sector, said: “Everyone, everywhere, now expects to get online for free when they’re out and about and making purchases.
“We’ve listened to the concerns of small businesses, who in many cases were providing a free WiFi service to their customers by sharing their password details.
“We’re addressing the cyber security and legal risks of doing so by providing a Guest WiFi service which is completely ring-fenced from companies’ private networks.
“Small firms benefit from greater security, content controls and better broadband performance, while at the same time giving their customers a faster, more convenient and secure way to get online with every visit to the business.”
