Former Miss Moneypenny actress Samantha Bond has been recruited by BT to help promote its YouView TV service.

The actress played Moneypenny in four films opposite Pierce Brosnan.

She has since guest-starred in ITV’s Downton Abbey and last year starred alongside Omid Djalili, Tim McInnerny and Georgia Moffett in a new production of Joe Orton’s What the Butler Saw.

In new new role, Bond will play the mother of flatmate Simon (Daniel Rigby) who arrives unexpectedly.

Trying to avoid a grilling about his personal life from his mother, Simon attempts to distract her with his new YouView box.

David James, marketing director for Consumer, BT Retail, said: “It’s great to have Samantha Bond join the cast of the BT flatmates in our new YouView ad.

“The characters in the adverts have gathered a real following with people wanting to know what happens next. The characters really allow us to demonstrate how our products and services enhance daily life.”

The ad will be screened during a number of shows including One Born Every Minute on Channel 4 on the evening of 2nd January and Celebrity Big Brother on Channel Five on the evening 3rd January.
