ITV has confirmed it’ll show the third season of Lethal Weapon “in late Spring”.
Based on the hit movie franchise, the series originally starred Clayne Crawford and Damon Wayans as Detectives Martin Riggs and Roger Murtaugh but, following much publicised behind the scenes tensions and troubles, Crawford was dropped by producers.
The second season ended with Riggs being shot in the chest at his wife’s grave and the new run will see the arrival of new character Wesley Cole – played by Seann William Scott (American Pie movies) – a former international CIA operative “who has been everywhere and seen everything.”
While Wayans is returning for the third series, alongside Keesha Sharp as his wife Trish and Dante Brown and Chandler Kinney as his children Roger Jr and Rianna, the actor has already announced that he won’t be returning for a fourth season.
Sasha Breslau, ITV’s Head of Acquired Series said, “Lethal Weapon continues to be a stand out drama from the US, successfully rebooting a beloved movie franchise.
“In the UK it has built a loyal following with ITV viewers enjoying their weekly fix of high-octane action and drama.
“The new series will take its place alongside all the popular new and returning ITV dramas in 2019.”
