The launch of five new BBC HD channels this week means UK households now enjoy a total of ten subscription-free HD channels via YouView and Freeview.
Joining HD versions of BBC One, BBC Two, ITV, Channel 4 and news channel Al Jazeera English HD are BBC Three HD, BBC Four HD, BBC News HD, CBeebies HD and CBBC HD.
All five of the BBC’s new channels went live today, Tuesday 10th December.
The arrival of BBC Three HD means fans of hit comedy Him & Her will be able to enjoy the show in HD for the first time this season. The show was previously shown on BBC HD channel which was axed to make space for BBC Two HD.
Most Freeview HD TVs and set top boxes and all YouView set top boxes should automatically add the new channels to the electric programme guides (EPG).
Viewers can also manually retune their equipment to add the channels.
Households with a TV or set top box which includes access to BBC iPlayer will also be able to access o demand and catch-up programmes from the new channels in HD.
On Freeview HD and YouView BBC Three HD and CBBC HD will use capacity on the BBC’s existing HD capacity and will be available to all UK homes.
BBC News HD, BBC Four HD and CBeebies HD will use new HD capacity, and will be available to 70 per cent of UK homes by the Wimbledon Championships in June 2014.
