YouView to take on more than 50 new development staff in major expansion

YouView_logo_380Smart-TV platform YouView has announced a “major” recruitment drive which will see its technology team expand by more than 50%.

The service is looking to hire 50 new developers, test engineers and project managers over the next 12 months.

The recruitment drive comes just weeks after all seven shareholders – the BBC, ITV, Channel 4, Channel 5, BT, TalkTalk and Arqiva – agreed a new five year funding settlement.

More than 1 million homes now use the service which is available subscription-free from retailers as well as part of a broadband and pay-TV bundle from BT and TalkTalk.

A YouView spokesman said the recruits would work on IP-delivered video, HTML5 and cloud-based services “across a wide range of devices, in a fast-paced environment at the forefront of the UK TV industry.”

Piers Lomax, Head of Engineering, YouView said, “YouView is a young, ambitious company creating products that are used by millions of customers.

“We’re looking for talented people who can bring new ideas to our tech teams and help create the consumer devices, mobile apps and highly scalable network services that will continue to move YouView forward.”

The recruitment drive kicks off this weekend with a YouView stand at the Silicon Milkroundabout, a technology recruitment fair running on 10-11 May at The Old Truman Brewery in London.
